Evaluation

Evaluation

The pre production work was extremely helpful in many ways as it gave me an opportunity to fully understand the task and connect with a better thought process. The pre production work included,  my personal mood board, a collaboration of my groups mood board, crew list, materials list, script, the proposal, outline, various sources of  research , risk assessment, budget sheet and  the synopsis.
The mood boards and the collaboration of mood boards helped give us a clearer view of the intended nine minute documentary by enabling us to see what we needed to prepare in order to film. We collected a variety of images and text. These were the connotations we associated with ‘horror’ and ‘ghost haunting’ films.
The storyboard helped greatly as it was a structured template of how we wanted our nine minute documentary to look. The storyboard came into great use when we finally got round to shooting. Our storyboard was our guideline and became so useful to us a group when filming. We knew exactly what shot we were going to shoot, what was going to happen in that shot and how long it was going to last. Our story board was regularly altered in some places but we made sure it was like the final product exact.  We used our storyboards for a variety of things but mainly to show what shot types we wanted to use and when. Without the storyboard our end result would have not been as effective as it has been using a storyboard. Each of my peers in my group had a storyboard of our own and we were able to take them out with us shooting.
The crew list, allowed us to stay in touch and communicate when needed to. This list also provided each member of the team, with an awareness of each other’s roles of the production. Any various problems that were encountered we were able to discuss with the minimum of effort as we knew which person to involve in the discussion.
The material list was a great help as each member of the team knew and was responsible for the items they needed to source. This list also gave each member sole responsibility for their provisions. This list was updated regularly and altered in accordance with which ever task we were working on.
Both primary and secondary research involved many in depths study and contacts e.g. Websites, literature, and on site location visits. The research we used was formed over many weeks of studying in lessons, homework, and any other free periods we had. The more research the better. Once the final product was complete on reflection the amount of research covered really aided the completion of the task as we had various reference points to consistently look back on.

Our production schedule allowed us to plan the days we worked hard on our pre-production, and when we went out on location to shoot.   Our production schedule was helpful as it made it easier for us along a deadline. We may not have always followed the production schedule timetable but we made sure we got it done either in or outside of time in lesson.
The script was a laborious task that enabled us to understand the characters and storyline and this intern triggered the process of camera angles and filming techniques. The script was my responsibility for this task and so time and effort went into the research so that the end product was suitable and appropriate.

Proposal for 9 Minute Documentary

The Proposal

1.
Topic?      .9 minute documentary.
Is the Henley College haunted?

2.
Important questions that need an answer (three or more)
1)   Do you believe in Ghosts?
2)    Is Henley College haunted?
3)   What makes you believe in ghosts? Any personal experiences?

3.
Three talking heads (who I will interview formally)
Myself – Annie / The Interviewer
Interviewees - Jack, Elliot, Josh, Sarah and Myself.
We will be interviewing a believer and two non- believers. We’ve decided to do more interviews of non believers purely because we wanted to see how their answers differed.
4.
Voice-over narration (what I will say about the topic through a narrator)
-         Elliot is our narrator for this documentary.
He will give and introduction and conclusion at the beginning and end of the documentary.  There will also be various voice over’s of Elliot talking over footage of the basement and grave yard.
5.
On-location footage (what I will show while narrating)
-         On site at the Henley college.
-         The abandoned swimming pool at Henley College.
-         St. Mary’s church and graveyard
-         Other footage may be filmed of us walking to places around Henley on Thames.
-         Archive footage
6.
The Twist(something cool to impress audience)
Our teacher (Sarah) will be the ‘twist’. She will talk about her personal experiences with spiritual bodies in an exclusive interview.
7.
How I plan to “get it done”.

To work as a team. Make deadlines and stick to them. Allot jobs for each member to do so we get things done quicker. Follow our script so we know what we need to film and when.

LO3: Pre-Production and 9 minute documentary

The Synopsis
During the length of this nine minute documentary, Henley college students take on the ‘haunted’ basement as they true to capture footage of any paranormal activity.
Along with the subject teacher Sarah, we will be visiting various locations in order to reach our goal, which is to collect real footage of anything suspicious.
The documentary will include many on site Locations being held at the Henley College abandoned swimming pool, Greys court which is also in Henley and finally, the woods.
The aim of the project is to try and persuade people that ghosts do exist, although this will only work depending on how successful the documentary is.

OUTLINE OF OUR 9 MINUTE PARANORMAL DOCUMENTARY –
We will keep the cameras rolling whole time, so we can then edit down our footage to bits of where we’re setting up and moving around, to speak over, so we have not got a lack of footage. We think it would be better that we have too much footage then too little. We start with our introduction. This will explain the story of Rotherfield court, its history and its previous owners. This will also include a brief run through of everything in the documentary, and everything they will be watching. We shall film this down at the abandoned swimming pool when it is dark to add a late night scary effect. Afterwards we will have all of our personal team views individually and outside non-believer and non-believer (interviews). This is so we can get a view from different ages, and beliefs, so our documentary is not biased. We then go onto our preparation – filming; cameras, getting ready, dressed, walking there, walking down. So everything before going to the places will be filmed, and could be talked over, or all fast forwarded in an effect kind of way. We then move onto Greys Court where we give a short talk outside of it at night, explain the past there and what goes on, try and get some spooky shots. The last scene will be the tour of Rotherfield Court basement where we will do the majority of our filming. That is because this is the main ‘attraction’ being in our college and everything.
